Womens Institute Take a Close Look at Rochford
I recently led a private Guided Walk around the fascinating little town of Rochford in Essex for members of the Hockley and Hawkwell Womens Institute.
This was a version of my "Rochford" walk which I include in my public programme from time to time.
Although I am based in Leicester now, I was born in Rochford and lived in the town during the 1970s, when I was involved with various local organisations.
I was able to show the ladies lots of aspects of the town, some well known, like the Market Square, and others not so well known, such as the little river, formerly known as the Wallfleet, which as the River Roach opens out into an impresive tidal river a mile downstream.
I spoke about Anne Boleyn and Mary de Bohun, as well as the strange ceremony known as the Whispering Court.
I was very pleased to be asked, and enjoyed myself once again strolling around my home town.
