WI Shown Historic Cemetery
I led a private "Welford Road Cemetery" Guided Walk recently.
I had been asked to do this by Hoby Women`s Institute.
Welford Road Cemetery in Leicester is one of the oldest cemeteries in the country, and was opened in 1849.
During the walk, I explain the reasons why a cemetery was needed, and why that location was chosen, at the time outside the burgeoning town.
I also point out the burial places of some of the great and the good (and certainly fascinating!) of Leicester, including the world famous travel agent Thomas Cook.
I am very happy to lead this walk for your own group. Feel free to get in touch to discuss it.
