St. Albans Festival Pilgrimage
My wife Anne and I had a really good day in St. Albans recently.
We went in a minibus with a party from Christ the King at Beaumont Leys for the St. Albans Festival Pilgrimage.
This annual event is in celebration of St. Alban, Britain`s first Christian martyr, who was beheaded on the spot where the magnificent St. Albans Abbey now stands.
We arrived beside the Verulamium Museum, and joined the crowds following the colourful procession, with characters representing elements of the story.
When everybody arrived at the Abbey, there was a service, which Anne attended while I walked around the city taking photographs.
After the service, we met and had coffee etc at the first class refectory in the Abbey, and then attended evensong.
It was an excellent day, and I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to St. Albans (which is a very historic city anyway) for the festival in future years.
I may even run a Coach Trip to it from Leicester one of these days.
