Olympic Athletes to be Based at Loughborough

The British team for the 2012 Olympic Games will be based at Loughborough, it has been announced.

The Games will be held in London, and the associated buildings are going up apace at Stratford (Essex)).

It had earlier been announced that the British team would be based, and would do their extensive training, at Aldershot, but this week that decision has been reversed and Loughborough has been chosen istead.

The sports facilities at Loughborough University are superb, and indeed have helped in the development of outstanding performers in a wide variety of sports.

The news is very good news indeed for Loughborough and for Leicestershire in general, in terms of both the local economy and of the county`s public profile.
