Lord Carey and the King James Bible
Anne and I went to Leicester Cathedral recently for a fascinating talk by Lord Carey (George Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury).
The talk was called "The Role of Holy Books in Secular Society: Reflections on the King James Bible (1611 - 2011)".
Widely regarded as one of the finest works of English literature, and originating countless phrases in common use today, the King James Bible (or the Authorised Version) was a very successful attempt to make the scriptures accessible to all English-speaking people.
Lord Carey proved, unsurprisingly, to be an engaging and most interesting speaker.
