Kevin Sharp at Grace Road
I recently attended another meeting of the Leicestershire Cricket Society at Grace Road in Leicester.
The Society is a great way of keeping in touch with the game during the long cold close season, and has a large membership, including me, of course.
On this occasion, the speaker was the former Yorkshire batsman Kevin Sharp, who regaled us with some excellent anecdotes.
I had been asked to give the vote of thanks. I reminded Kevin of a Sunday match at Chelmsford, between Essex and Yorkshire. Those of us who were at the time Essex members were delighted when the famous England opener Geoffrey Boycott was out for a very low score. We shouldn`t have been so pleased, though, because a young man named Kevin Sharp came in and scored a very fine century. Should have let Geoffrey stay there and be 20 not out at the close.
If you love cricket and live in Leicestershire, why not join the society?
