In the Run-Up to Richard III Announcement
Excitement all over the world, centred on Leicester, reached fever pitch on a Monday morning recently.
A press conference had been scheduled at Leicester University, when it would be announced whether the remains found at the Greyfriars were really those of the much maligned young king Richard III.
Before the press conference actually took place, BBC Radio Leicester were broadcasting from the University, and invited a few of us with a special interest to be interviewed on air.
I talked about the huge implications for tourism and the economy if it was confirmed that the remains were Richard`s. But I also spoke about the positives even if the answer was negative. The fact was, I pointed out, that the eyes of the world were now on Leicester, and we had the chance to show that our city has a long, distinguished and fascinating history anyway.
And as everybody now knows, it is the remains of Richard III that have been discovered in Leicester.
