Donington to Host Grand Prix Races
Excellent news for Leicestershire is that from 2010 the British Grand Prix is to move from Silverstone to Donington Park.
Formula One races have been held for many years at the Northamptonshire track, but the sport`s supremo Bernie Ecclestone felt that it was time for a change.
The last time such an important race was held at Donington was in 1993, when it staged the European Grand Prix, won by the late Ayrton Senna.
The news is a great fillip for Leicestershire, which stands to benefit to a great extent economically.
Incidentally, take no notice of the media stories which claim that Donington Park is in Derbyshire. This is just ignorance. Although Derby is the nearest city, the track (close to historic Castle Donington and East Midlands Airport) is firmly in Leicestershire.
