Cricketing Curate Entertains Grace Road
Once again, I went to a meeting of Leicestershire Cricket Society recently at Grace Road in Leicester.
The society meets on a monthly basis during the close season, so that cricket lovers can keep up with cricketing matters even when there is no play to watch.
At each meeting, there is a talk by somebody connected with the game. Recent speakers have included Jim Cumbes, Basharat Hassan and Peter Parfitt.
This time, it was Canon Alan Haydock, a member of the Nottinghamshire committee.
Alan grew up in Lancashire, and on becoming a priest in the Southwell diocese he began organising cricket matches between a Diocese XI and local teams.
Alan`s presentation was alternately hilarious and absorbing, and very much enjoyed.
