Basher Talks to Cricket Society
A recent Leicestershire Cricket Society meeting featured a talk by Basharat Hassan.
I go to as many of these meetings at Grace Road as I can fit in, and always enjoy the talks by personalities involved in cricket. This one was no exception.
Basharat Hassan, or "Basher" as he is widely known, grew up in Kenya and got his taste of good class cricket while playing for an Asian XI against a European XI.
His performances led to him being invited to join the Nottinghamshire club, and he stayed there for many years, gaining a regular place as a good batsman who sometimes kept wicket.
Later on, he became an umpire.
Basher regaled us with stories about his career, and about some of the players with whom he had played, including, Richard Hadlee, Derek Randall, Clive Rice and the great Gary Sobers.
Today he acts as Sobers` agent.
Basher proved a very competent and very engaging speaker.
