A Short Break in Kent
Anne, my wife, and I had another short break recently, this time in Kent.
We stayed for one night in Bearsted, near Maidstone, as guests of the impressive Marriott Hotel.
On the way, we decided to stop in Maidstone, the county town, and have a look around, but found it largely depressing and caught the train on to Bearsted earlier than we had anticipated.
We found one of the nicest spots ever for dinner, strolling back from the hotel to the White Horse on the large and picturesque village green. It was a very good dinner, and marvellous to be able to sit and eat it on the edge of the green.
After a good breakfast at the hotel, we went to Leeds Castle. This is of course at Leeds (Kent), not the considerably larger one. We had arranged to meet our daughter Gillian and her partner Darren there, and they duly arrived on time, having travelled up from Hythe.
We all enjoyed Leeds Castle very much. The castle itself was most impressive, and its setting is quite beautiful, and we had fun getting lost in the maze.
It was a good couple of days.
