St. Senara`s Church (Zennor)

St. Senara`s Church is the parish church of the village of Zennor, in Penwith in Cornwall.

It is an old church, dating back in part to the Norman period.

The church is famous for one of its bench ends in the chancel. It shows a mermaid, holding a comb and a mirror, a most unusual depiction, and dates from around 1450.

Local tradition says that the mermaid fell in love with the son of the local squire and took him to love with her beneath the waves.
