It is centrally situated, just a few minutes walk from the city centre.
Trains from London depart from Waterloo Station, and reach Winchester by way of Woking and Basingstoke.
They continue to Eastleigh and Southampton.
A branch line once ran to Whitchurch and Thatcham.
