St. Mary`s Church (Warwick)

St. Mary`s Church, often taken to be a cathedral, is one of the major attractions of the splendid old town of Warwick. Its tower, rising to 174 feet, is a landmark for miles around.

Although basically mediaeval, the church was largely destroyed in the fire which did so much damage to the town in 1694. It was rebuilt soon after.

Within the church is the magnificent Beauchamp Chapel, built between 1443 and 1464. It contains superb vaulting, brilliant stained glass and wonderful examples of 15th century statuary. It also contains the monument to Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick.

The crypt has Norman pillars.
