Staunton Harold Hall (Staunton Harold)
Staaunton Harold Hall is the big house at Staunton Harold in Leicestershire.
It forms a most picturesque scene together with Holy Trinity Church and the lake.
The house is the ancestral home of the Shirley family, whose earliest house was built in the 15th century. A little of the original house is embedded in the present one.
The house that can be seen today was built in the 17th century, and is partly the work of Inigo Jones.
Laurence, Earl Ferrers, who lived at Staunton Harold Hall, was executed at Tyburn in London, having murdered his steward in cold blood. This unfortunate man had objected to his master`s appalling treatment of his wife.
