Brownes Hospital (Stamford)
Browne's Hospital is a handsome building in the outstanding Lincolnshire town of Stamford.
It stands on Broad Street, almost opposite the Stamford Museum.
The founder was William Browne, a wealthy merchant who largely rebuilt All Saints Church. He was an enthusiastic local benefactor who provided in his will for the establishment of the hospital.
It was completed in 1475, and is generally regarded as one of the finest and most unusual mediaeval buildings in England.
Browne's Hospital continues its almshouses tradition to this day.
