Market Place (St. Albans)
The Market Place is at the centre of the historic old city of St. Albans.
At the centre of this small area, just outside the gates of St. Albans Abbey, is the Clock Tower, which dates back to the early 15th century, while nearby is the site of one of the Eleanor Crosses.
Around the Market Place, the first Battle of St. Albans was fought in 1455. This was the first battle in the Wars of the Roses, and resulted in the capture of Henry VI.
