Saracen`s Head (Southwell)
The Saracen`s Head is an old coaching inn in Southwell in Nottinghamshire.
It is situated in the Market Place, near the junction with Queen Street.
The Saracen`s Head dates back to the 14th century, and is timber framed.
It now includes the town`s former Assembly Rooms, whose 19th century portico is clearly visible.
It was here that Charles I surrendered over to the Parliamentarians in 1646, having been on the run after his defeat at the Battle of Naseby.
