St. Leonard`s Church (Southminster)
St. Leonard`s Church is the parish church of Southminster in the Dengie Hundred in Essex.
It is an extraordinary looking church, in a wide variety of styles, and made of stone, flint and brick.
The West tower dates from the 14th century, the fine South porch from the 15th century, and the South doorway is Norman.
There is a collection of furniture which had belonged to Lord Nelson in the vestry. Nelson`s chaplain, who comforted hiom while he was dying on board HMS Victory, was Dr. Alexander Scott, who became Vicar of Southminster.
