Winter Gardens (Rothesay)

The Winter Gardens are an interesting part of the attractions at Rothesay.

Originally on the site, on the Esplanade, was an octagonal bandstand, built in 1895. This was added to in 1923 - 24 by a circular domed structure, covering the seating area.

At the same time the bandstand was roofed over and an entrance created between two square towers designed to be reminiscent of pagodas.

There is a considerable amount of art nouveau decoration.

Today the Winter Gardens house the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre.
