St. Mary`s Church (Richmond)
St. Mary`s Church is the parish church of the historic Yorkshire market town of Richmond.
It is situated in Lombard`s Wynd, a little away from the present town centre.
There was probably an Anglo-Saxon church on the site, but the present building dates back to the early 12th century. There was an extensive restoration by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1859 - 60.
There are finely carved canopied stalls in the chancel. These came from Easby, a short distance from the town.
Within the church is the memorial chapel of the Green Howards.
