The Grange (Ramsgate)

The Grange is a historic house in the Kent resort of Ramsgate.

It is situated in St. Augustine`s Road.

The Grange was built by the great Augustus Pugin between 1843 and 1844 as a family home. He deliberately built it close to St. Augustines Abbey, which he personally designed and paid for.

It was at The Grange that Pugin produced the design for the interior of the House of Lords, as well as the Mediaeval Court at the 1851 Great Exhibition.

His own house, though, features a multitude of his own brilliant design ideas.

Pugin died at The Grange and was buried at St. Augustine`s Abbey.

The house is now in the care of the Landmark Trust and is available for holidays.
