Museum of Submarine Telegraphy (Porthcurno)

The Museum of Submarine Telegraphy is a fascinating attraction at Porthcurno in Cornwall.

It is on the site of the English end of the first long distance telegraph service in what was then the British Empire. This was established in 1870, and ran to Bombay.

During the Second World War, Porthcurno became a secret communications centre.

Much of the early equipment is on display in the museum.
