University College (Oxford)

University College is one of the colleges that together make up the world famous Oxford University.

It is situated in the High Street (The High).

The college was founded by William of Durham in 1249, for twelve scholars. It was re-endowed in the 17th century by John Radcliffe, physician to William III.

There is a memorial in the chapel to Percy Bysshe Shelley, who was expelled from the college in 1811 for atheism and indiscipline.
