Osbornes (Old Leigh)
Osbornes are one of the best known businesses in the old Essex maritime town of Old Leigh.
For many generations, the Osborne family have been involved in seafood in this historic old town, known locally as Old Leigh.
A path leading Westwards from the Error with link towards Leigh Station leads past the cockle sheds, run by Osbornes and other local companies.
The cockles, and other seafood, are brought in by boat from the estuary of the River Thames, and processed in these sheds. In some cases, it is possible to buy the produce direct from the sheds.
However, in the High Street, opposite the Crooked Billet, is a shop, and thousands of people every year sit outside to eat the food when it is fresh.
