Old Salutation (Nottingham)
The Old Salutation is an ancient inn in Nottingham.
It is situated on Maid Marian Way.
Not far from the Old Trip to Jerusalem, widely regarded as England`s oldest pub, the Old Salutation is a little older, and dates from the 12th century.
The name comes from the Archangel Gabriel`s greeting to Mary.
Like many other buildings in Nottingham, it has caves beneath it, in this case on three levels. These were used for many centuries as dwellings.
