It was established to serve St. Mary`s Church.
St. Mary`s Halt is one of the stations on the preserved Dean Forest Railway, which started life as a horse drwan tramway in 1809.
Steam trains run South to Lydney Junction Station, and North to Lydney Town Station, Norchard and Parkend.
