Whitechapel Station (London)
Whitechapel Station in the East End of London is one of the city's busy Underground stations.
The entrance is in Whitechapel Road, opposite the London Hospital.
It is a station on the District and Hammersmith and City Lines (the latter was formerly part of the Metropolitan). The District extends to Upminster in Essex and the Hammersmith and City to Barking.
Whitechapel is also a stop on the East London Line, which runs under the River Thames to New Cross.
Along the pavement outside the station are the stalls of the busy Whitechapel Road street market.
Nearby Victorian buildings are associated with Jack the Ripper and Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man from Leicester.
Whitechapel Station is used as the starting point for Guided Walks led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby. Those wishing to take part should assemble on the pavement outside the station.
