Jewel Tower (London)

The Jewel Tower is a little known historic building in the heart of London.

It is situated in Abingdon Street in Westminster, in the shadow of Westminster Abbey and opposite the Houses of Parliament.

The Jewel Tower was built in about 1365 to house the personal treasure of Edward III, and is one of two surviving fragments of the original Palace of Westminster.

It now houses an exhibition on "Parliament Past and Present", while on the second floor are illustrated panels telling the story of the building itself.

The Jewel House is now in the care of English Heritage.
