North Foreland Lighthouse (Kingsgate)
The North Foreland Lighthouse is one of the best known lighthouses in England, and is situated at Kingsgate on the Isle of Thanet in Kent.
In a fine position on top of the chalk cliffs, it has a short tower of a brilliant white.
There has been a lighthouse on this site for 500 years.
The present lighthouse was constructed in 1634 and increased in height in 1790.
In 1998, it was the last manned lighthouse in Britain to be converted to an automatic operation.
