Tuesday Market Place (Kings Lynn)

The Tuesday Market Place is a large open area in the fascinating old town of Kings Lynn in Norfolk.

This is the actual market place today, the Saturday Market Place being a much smaller area beside St. Margarets Church.

It has a decent claim to being the largest market place in England, although similar claims could be made by Newark, Norwich and Salisbury.

The 19th century Corn Hall stands in the Market Place, as does the 17th century Duke's Head Hotel, and nearby is St. Nicholas Church.

A house overlooking the market has a heart carved on a brick at first floor level. According to legend, a witch was being burned at the stake in the Market Place, when her heart burst from her chest and hit the wall at that spot. It then proceeded to run down the lane into the River Great Ouse.
