St. Peter`s Church (Hayling Island)

St. Peter`s is the parish church of the village of North Hayling, on Hayling Island.

It was originally built about 1150, and rebuilt around 1250.

There are a number of enormous uncut sarsen stones built into the fabric of the church, and some mediaeval pilgrims` crosses scratched onto the door jamb.

The bells are the oldest set of three surviving in England, dating from about 1350.

In the churchyard is the grave of Princess Catherine Yourievsky. A member of the Russian Royal family, she lived at North Hayling for many years and died in 1959 aged 79.
