Village Green (Hallaton)
The Village Green is one of the prettiest features of the delightful village of Hallaton, hidden away in High Leicestershire.
The grassy bank in the centre of the village is on the site of what was formerly used as a weekly Market Place.
The very unusual conical Butter Cross on the green dates back to the 17th century, and was used to denote the point where butter could be purchased.
Nearby is the village War Memorial, given by a local landowner. This has another use, for incorporated are seats - a very nice feature on a pretty Village Green.
Behind the green is the brick Union Chapel, dated 1822, and the 17th century Conduit, bringing fresh water to the village.
The Village Green is used as the starting point for Guided Walks led by Colin Crosby.
