Hallaton Castle (Hallaton)

Hallaton Castle is situated in fields just outside the picturesque village of Hallaton in High Leicestershire.

Although no buildings survive, there are extensive earthwork remains of the motte and bailey.

It seems to have been built during the troubled reign of King Stephen in the 12th century, but the site was already the centre of an estate mentioned in the Domesday Book.

The castle's defences were aided on two sides by natural streams.
