St. Mary the Less Church (Durham)
St. Mary the Less is one of the mediaeval churches in the old cathedral city of Durham.
It is situated in South Bailey, which together with North Bailey runs almost the whole length of the peninsula round which the River Wear skirts.
It is in the quiet end of Durham, as opposed to the busy Market Place at the other end.
St. Mary the Less was built in the 12th century, and much restored in the Victorian period. It has Norman windows and a dogtooth arch.
Once the parish church for the South Bailey, it now functions as the chapel for St. John's College.
