Downes (Crediton)
Downes is an important house at Crediton in Devon.
It is situated on the edge of the town.
Downes is a Palladian mansion, originally built in 1692. It was at one time the home of General Sir Redvers Buller, who was much admired in Devon, and the house contains many items relating to his military campaigns.
It has a striking main staircase, and elegant rooms hung with family portraits, being still essentially a family home.
