St. Peter and St. Paul Church (Clare)
St. Peter and St. Paul Church is the splendid parish church of the picturesque little town of Clare in Suffolk.
There was a fine church here in the 13th century, but this was rebuilt in the 15th century, using some of the earlier masonry.
The present church has a tower and huge windows, with plenty of light from the clerestory.
Two private pews survive. One pew has the arms of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, and a later one dates from the Stuart period.
The South porch has a boss depicting a Green Man.
In the churchyard are a collection of yews, and the Ancient House, dated 1473.
