Clare Castle (Clare)

Clare Castle is the remnant of a historic building at Clare in Suffolk.

A large earthwork was built here in the Anglo-Saxon period, and it was here that the castle was built in the 11th century by Richard Fitzgilbert and his sucessors the powerful de Clare family.

Today there are slight but impressve remains of the keep on its mound, which is now part of a very pleasant country park.
