Central Pier (Blackpool)

Central Pier is one of a dwindling number of English seaside piers, a fascinating and much loved institiution.

It is situated on the Irish Sea coast at the major resort of Blackpool, and is one of three piers in the town. The others are North Pier and South Pier.

Central Pier was designed by John Isaac Mawson and opened in 1868 with a length of 1518 feet. It was originally named South Pier, but changed its name in 1893.

Today, Central Pier, with a wide array of traditional amusements and a 108 feet Ferris Wheel, is one of the most popular piers in the country.
