Purleigh
Purleigh is a village in Essex, on the edge of the Dengie Hundred and 3 miles from Maldon.
There are fine views over the River Blackwater and the River Crouch.
All Saints Church has a chequered and banded flint West tower dating from the 14th century.
Lawrence Washington, the great great grandfather of George Washington, the first United States President, was Rector here from 1623 to 1643. He was buried at Maldon.
There is a vineyard at New Hall, which welcomes visitors.
