Nuneaton

Nuneaton is a large town in Warwickshire, close to the border with Leicestershire, and 8 miles from Coventry.

It is on the River Anker and the Coventry Canal, and is a former coalmining centre.

St. Mary's Church incorporates remains of a 12th century Benedictine nunnery, founded by the Earl of Leicester, after which the town is named.

St. Nicholas' Church is another place of worship that dates back to the 12th century.

The Nuneaton Museum in Riversley Park has a collection based on George Eliot, who as Mary Ann Evans was born nearby at Arbury. She fictionalised the town as "Milby".

The Public Library was designed by Frederick Gibberd in 1962.

Nuneaton was the birthplace of the film director Ken Loach.

Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Nuneaton for groups.
