Montgomery
Montgomery is a small Welsh town in Powys. It is 7 miles from Welshpool.
The town, which is in reality only a village, was once the county town of Montgomeryshire.
It took its name from the powerful Norman baron Roger de Montgomery, among whose possessions were Shrewsbury and Chichester.
Montgomery Castle, now in ruins, was a border castle overlooking the valley of the River Severn.
Montgomery was given a town charter in the 13th century. It has a very attractive town square and a mediaeval church.
