Longleat
Longleat is a famous estate in Wiltshire, 5 miles from Warminster. It is owned by the Marquess of Bath.
Longleat House is a great 16th century mansion, created by Robert Smythson, with some 19th century additions. Macaulay described it as "perhaps the most magnificent house in England".
The house is on the site of an Augustinian priory.
Also on the estate is an animal park, famously including the Lions of Longleat.
The whole is set in beautiful parkland,landscaped by Capability Brown.
