Liskeard
Liskeard is a small hilltop town in Cornwall, 11 miles from Bodmin.
It received its charter in the 13th century and was one of Cornwall`s mediaeval stannary towns. Tin had to be brought to one of these towns to be weighed, assayed and taxed.
The 15th century St. Martin`s Church had a new tower added in 1902.
The Pipe Well is an ancient water supply, and was once considered to have healing qualities.
The historian Edward Gibbon was the town`s M. P.
It is from Liskeard that the picturesque branch line runs to Looe.
