Knowsley

Knowsley is a village in Merseyside (formerly Lancashire), 7 miles from Liverpool.

Knowsley Hall has been the home of the Stanley family (who became Earl of Derby) since the 14th century. It stands in a huge park, covering 2500 acres. The wall extends for 12 miles.

Edward Lear was commissioned to paint the animals in the family menagerie in the 1830s. Some of his watercolours of birds are among he fine collection of paintings.

Knowsley Safari Park is situated in the grounds of the hall.
