Great Ayton
Great Ayton is a pretty village among the Cleveland Hills in North Yorkshire, 5 miles from Guisborough.
Captain James Cook went to school here from the age of eight. The cottage where he lived was removed to Melbourne in Australia in 1934, and has been replaced by an obelisk made of Australian stone.
The school contains a small museum of Cook memorabilia.
There is another, more prominent, memorial to Captain Cook on nearby Easby Moor.
Roseberry Topping is an impressive hill, rising to 1057 feet, from which the North Sea can be seen.
