Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum (Great Ayton)

The Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum is a fascinating attraction in he village of Great Ayton in North Yorkshire.

It is housed in the Charity School which was founded here in 1704 in the shadow of the hill known as Rosemary Topping.

Captain James Cook, born at nearby Marton, was a pupil at the school from 1736 to 1740.

The schoolroom has been recreated to look as it would have done in the 18th century, and has a small collection of Cook memorabilia.
