Gillingham
Gillingham is a town in Kent, on the estuary of the River Medway and adjoining Chatham. It is pronounced "Jillingham".
There is a country park overloking the internationally important waterfowl reserves on the marshes.
St. Mary`s Church stands on The Green in the oldest part of the town. It dates from the Norman period.
Will Adams, the sailor who developed Japan`s navy, was born at Gillingham. James Clavell`s novel "Shogun" is based on his story. There is a Memorial Clock to him on Chatham Hill.
