East Bergholt
East Bergholt is a pretty village in Suffolk, close to the River Stour and the Essex border, and 7 miles from Colchester.
It is one of the essential stops on any tour of Constable Country.
East Bergholt was the birthplace in 1776 of the great landscape painter John Constable, whose father owned the watermill at nearby Flatford, and who attended school across the river at Dedham.
St. Mary's Church has a 16th century tower which remains unfinished, while the bells are in a cage in the churchyard, still waiting for the tower to be completed.
Randolph Churchill, the son of Winston, lived in the village.
