Cliffsend
Cliffsend is now a district of Ramsgate in Kent, and is situated where the Isle of Thanet begins.
It was here that Ramsgate International Hoverport was situated, with hovercraft leaving frequently for the 40 minute journey to Calais.
On the cliffs overlooking the hoverport site is the "Hugin", a replica of a Viking longboat which was sailed across from Denmark in 1949, to celebrate the traditional landing of Hengist and Horsa at nearby Ebbsfleet in 449.
At the same spot, no doubt for political reasons, St. Augustine landed in 597, at the start of his mission to evangelise the English.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Cliffsend for groups.
